The former commander of Leoric’s armies, Lachdannan, rescued the party from the grasp of the cursed knight Sir Garosh. In return, Lachdannan asked them to create for him a unique amber colored elixir that was save his soul from the affects of Leoric’s dying curse. Peppin had heard of the whereabouts of the recipe to create said potion but needed the key ingredient: a flower born from an archfey that attempted to stop the corruption of her people. Luckily the healer also knew the best place nearby to find such a rare plant -a mighty disciple of the healer’s goddess was bound to a sacred temple in the mountains.

The party made their way across the valley floor and up the pass to the place where ancients still dwell. Alulyssa, the disciple of Life, welcome the weary pilgrims and after seeing to their basic needs accepted a challenge to win the right to cultivate the magical flower. The party defeated her champion, completing the elixir and returning it to Lachdannan before it was too late. Greatful, the knight gave the amulet that has aided in protecting his soul and vowed if such a thing were possible, he would find some other way to aid them.

The Skeleton King

Upon hearing that the former ruler of Khanduras has risen from the dead and was creating an undead army to reconquer his lost domain, the party fought their way into the mad king’s crypt to stop his threat to the world once and for all.

The party entered a makeshift blacksmith and encountered its flesh clan enchanter, Gharbad. After showering the party with gifts and giving his tragic story of how he came to be trapped in this labyrinth, the group decided to leave Gharbad be.

The Great Conflict

During their travels the group found a small torn workbook containing an unusual block of text:

Using the very simple algorithm of H → A, I → B, J → C, etc. the passage translates as thus:

Take heed and bear witness to the truths that lie herein, for they are the last legacy of the Horadrim. There is a war that wages on even now, beyond the fields that we know -between the utopian kingdoms of the high heavens and the chaotic pits of the burning hells. This was is known as the Great Conflict, and it has raged and burned longer than any of the stars in the sky. Neither sides ever gains sway for long as the forces of light and darkness constantly vie for control over all creation.

The Butcher
Fresh Meat!

The group found and defeated The Butcher, the vile overlord that massacred many of the doomed townsfolk that ventured into the labyrinth beneath the cathedral. Searching among the effects of The Butcher’s victims Therodin reported to find nothing that belonged to Albrect and so the adventurers continued onward to find the fate of the lost prince.

Poisoned Well

After noticing the state of the water in the town fountain the group asked the healer about it. Peppin gave a rough location to the fountain’s spring source and taught a ritual that could be used to purify the water was whatever was causing the taint was discovered.

However it was the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye that found the root of the problem: demonic presence so close to the source caused the entire water system to become poisoness. The Sisters cleared the demons from the spring area and then collapsed that cave to seal it off for now.

The Dark Exile

Hidden on a secret page the group found this bare legible passage:

“So it came to be that there was a great revolution within the burning hells known as the Dark Exile. The lesser evils overthrew the three prime evils and banished their spirit forms to the mortal realm. The demons Belial, the lord of lies, and Azmodan (the lord of sin) fought to claim rulership over hell in the three brothers’ absence. All of hell polarized between the factions of Belial and Azmodan while the forces of the high heaves continually battered upon the very gates of hell.”

The Realms Beyond

Contained within a trapped desk drawer the group found a piece of parchment. Although the red scratchings had begun to fade, it writing was much more recent than any of the books contained within that library. It read:

“All praises to Diablo – Lord of Terror and Survivor of the Dark Exile. When he awakened from his long slumber, my Lord and Master spoke to me of secrets that few mortals know. He told me the Kingdoms of the High Heavens and the Pit of the Burning Hells engage in an eternal war. He revealed the powers that had brought this discord to the realms on Man. My Lord has named the battle for this world and all who exist here the Sin War.”

No, you cannot be a minotaur.

Here’s the treasure you all have access to: 4 vials of holy water, 2 vials of alchemist acid, 4 potions of healing, 4 crystal of knowing*, 3 tile keys*, woundstich powder, a floating lantern, a magic necklace/cloak of at most level 5 (i.e. any +1 neck slot item), and 1155 gp, 15 sp.

Instead of the Enchant Magic Item, you guys have access to Implore Divine Boon, Invoke Legendary Boon, and Grandmaster Training -artificers have access to these rituals at first level instead of the enchant magic item.

*There are two new “potions” that can be created with a brew potion ritual:

Crystal of Knowing Lvl 1
Since it can be difficult to identify the exact properties of a magical item, this rare crystal was crafted to aid in that regard
Wondrous Item 20 gp
Power (Consumable * Psionic): Standard Action. Touching this crystal to a magical item with an unknown power causes it to explode and imprint the way to call the power and its effects. This knowledge can be passed onto others.

Tile Key Lvl 1
A small ceramic tile imprinted with a design reminiscent of a house or an arrow.
Wondrous Item 20 gp
Power(Consumable * Teleportation, Summoning): Minor Action. Breaking this tile creates a portal to take up one square within 100 feet (close burst 20) at creation the creator can choose to give the portal a password. Stepping through the portal will take you to the closest gate in the area, where a portal back exists. The set of portals last until the creator steps through the gate portal or creates a new one. Until the creator enters the first portal anyone can pass to the gate, but afterwards only those that know the password can go through (if there isn’t one no one can go through after the creator). When a gate portal is approached by its creator it flashes a different color, which is handy when multiple such gates exist.

What would have happen had you killed the dragon or if you just left after looting the library: events would begin to unfold to show that the portal that the dragonborns opened has begun to have influence on not only the monastry that you went to, but all others that were created by the same group of Magi. Upon reaching that conclusion and learning that whatever the connection is, it can’t be severed from this side so a group must be sent through the main portal to destroy the link.

But your next group are tackling the problem from a different angle: You all are currently part of a trading envoy from the powerful land of Westmarch to the frontier “kingdom” of Khanduras even though the two countries are at war with each other due to the madness paranoia of the Khanduras’s king. The envoy is lead by Therodin Rynvale, whose father is both the Lord of the Attica region of Westmarch and the bishop of the powerful Zhakarum church in that region. The Zhakarum is the dominant religion for humans the Westmarch, Khanduras, and many other surrounding lands, believes that Bahamut, Erathis, Ioun, Kord, and Pelor and but aspects of one force of goodness known as The Light. Therodin himself is an adept in the Zhakarum, focusing on The Light’s aspect of protection (Bahamut), and is leading this envoy to bring goods those living in the embattle captial of Khanduras as well as trying to get to the bottom of it all.

As the trip does on the envoy comes under attack from cloaked raiders and monsters not found in the region and your quick thinking and fighting talents have impressed the young lord to invite you all to join him in his quest. If not swayed by the desire to help the oppressed and endangered people of Khanduras, Therodin is quick to mention that valuable treasure has been found by those that have made some attempt at solving the country’s problems and is willing to allow any such treasure to be the party’s. The envoy has just reached the outskirts of the capital and the quest is just beginning. . .

The First, Failed Attempt

Most of the restrictions is because there will be something similar to the “dark side points” and some of the races or sub/class is a little too close to the edge

Alignment: Your characters cannot be Evil or Chaotic Evil

Deities: Your characters cannot have a Evil or Chaotic Evil god and their patron deity.

Classes:

The following classes are not allowed at all: vampire, controller, defender, leader, striker (DMG2 companion classes)

The following classes have subclasses that are not allowed: warlock/binder/hexblade (dark, infernal, Sorceror King), sorceror (dragon magic, wild magic)

Also, blackguard of domination can be lawful good.

Races:

The following races ARE allowed: dwarf, eladrin, elf, human, half-elf, gith, warforged, mul, wilden, kenku, halfling, thri-kreen, shadar-kai, gnome, shardmind, golaith, genasi.

Inherent bonuses and themes are fine, but no automatic wild talents (i.e. you have to take the feat)

Setting: The adventure starts in Nackikatas, as small farming hamlet. The village’s teacher Mirianna has sent out a call for help to all neighboring townships for adventurers to come meet with her.
